The blackout construction is designed to significantly reduce incoming light and provide added privacy. Consider this shade for bedrooms, living rooms, or media spaces where reducing daylight is a priority.
The darkness achieved in your room depends on the selected color, window exposure, shade dimensions, and mounting method. Light can still enter around the edges, particularly with an inside mount. A blackout shade does not guarantee a completely dark room.
An outside mount with suitable overlap can help reduce light around the window edges. Review your intended coverage before choosing the finished dimensions.

How Do I Measure for an Outside-Mount Roman Shade?
For window frames with a depth of less than 2":
- Measure the full window width, including the moulding, then add ½ inch.
- Measure the full window height, including the moulding, then add 3 inches.
Do I Need to Subtract ⅜ Inch for an Inside Mount?
Yes. For a window casing width of 40", order a shade width of 39⅝" by subtracting ⅜" from the measured width.
How should I adjust the width for an inside mount?
For an inside mount, measure the inside width of the window opening at the top, middle, and bottom. Use the smallest measurement and subtract 3/8 inch before entering your order width.
For example, if the smallest opening width is 40 inches, enter 39 5/8 inches as your order width. Do not subtract from the height.
