Whether you’re keeping your existing hanging system or installing a new one, precise rod placement is key to achieving the right visual proportions for your window.

• If you already have a rod/track: Simply use a tape measure to measure its total length and record it.
• If this is a new installation:
• Create a taller visual effect (height): We recommend installing the rod 6 to 10 inches above the window frame. This “high-hanging” technique effectively elongates vertical lines, making the space appear more spacious. Please lightly mark this spot with a pencil or masking tape.
• Allow Ample Space (Width): To ensure there is enough room for the fabric to stack when the curtains are fully open (without blocking natural light), we recommend that the total length of the rod extends 6 to 15 inches beyond each side of the window frame.

💡 Essential Guide to “Drape Fullness”:

Full, voluminous drapes are the essence of a luxurious, custom-made look. Different curtain styles require varying fabric ratios:

• 2.0x Fullness: Suitable for double-pleats, tailor’s pleats, reverse pleats, and goblet pleats.
• 2.3 times fullness: Suitable for the more opulent and voluminous triple box pleats and triple tailor’s pleats.

(Note: If you haven’t installed the rod hardware yet, please first estimate the ideal total rod width following the recommendations in “Step 1.”)

The formula for calculating the width varies depending on the top-hem finishing method you choose:

• Flat-top styles (e.g., grommet, rod-pocket, strap): These styles require the pleats to form naturally when hung. Formula: Panel width = (Total rod or track width × Desired pleat multiple) ÷ Number of panels
• Pre-formed pleat styles (e.g., various double/triple pleats, European pleats): Since the top pleats are sewn in place according to standard proportions during manufacturing, what you see is what you get. Formula: Panel width = Total rod or track width ÷ Number of panels
• Wave-pleat styles: Calculation formula: Width per panel = Total width of rod or track ÷ Number of panels(Pro tip: This calculation is based on the fixed width at the top. Due to the draping characteristics of wave pleats, the natural spread of the hem is approximately 2.1 times the width at the top.)

When measuring the height, consider not only the top hanging method but also the floor-sweeping style you desire.

1. Measure the Base Height

• Flat-top styles (grommet, rod-through, etc.): Measure the distance vertically from the top of the curtain rod to the floor.
• Fixed-pleat styles (such as box pleats): Measure the distance vertically down from the desired starting point of the curtain top (usually the bottom of the grommet) to the floor.
• Wave-pleat styles: Measure the distance vertically down from the bottom of the track to the floor.

2. Calculate the final custom height based on the hem style

Once you have determined the base height, adjust it up or down according to the following three classic floor-contact styles:

• Floating style: Subtract ½ inch from the base height. The bottom edge of the curtain hangs just above the floor, making it less prone to collecting dust and ideal for modern living areas that are frequently cleaned.
• Floor-Skimming Style: No adjustment needed; use the exact base height. The curtain bottom lightly touches the floor, creating a clean, crisp, and perfectly tailored look.
• Floor-Sweeping Style: Add 2 to 4 inches to the base height. The excess fabric forms a beautiful pile on the floor, exuding a romantic, classic, and luxurious feel.

• Preferred Measuring Tool: Be sure to use a rigid steel tape measure; flexible tape measures can stretch easily, leading to measurement errors.
• Accurate Recording: Read measurements carefully, recording width and length to the nearest inch.
• Individual Measurements: Even for windows or door frames that appear to be the same size within the same room, measure each one individually to account for potential dimensional variations in the building structure.
• Custom-Made: Your custom curtains will be meticulously cut and crafted strictly according to the width and length measurements you ultimately submit.
